Bring-Baby-Home Checklist

Before the ride home

  • Install the car seat and make sure you know how the baby fits in it.
  • Put the sleep space together before you are hauling a sleepy baby through the house.
  • Restock diapers, wipes, and one feeding setup at the place you will use them most.

For the first night

  • Choose who responds first to crying, feeding, and diaper changes.
  • Keep lights low and the sleep space simple.
  • Make food and water easy to reach for the adults.

After you arrive

  • Write down the first follow-up appointment.
  • Save the numbers for the baby’s clinician and your own support contacts.
  • Decide what would make you ask for help sooner rather than later.

What to notice

The first night is mostly about whether the system works, not whether it feels graceful. If the baby is feeding, breathing, and settling into a safe setup, that is a win even if the room looks nothing like the photos you saved 12.
