Clothing Strategy

Dress for the season you are in

Buy for the current weather plus a small buffer. Babies grow quickly, but they also generate laundry at a speed that makes "just one more outfit" a recurring trap. Clothing should make diaper changes, sleep, and weather management easy rather than cute 1.

What works best

  • Simple closures that are easy in the dark.
  • Layering that lets you add or remove warmth without a full costume change.
  • A small number of everyday pieces that wash well and dry quickly.

What to avoid

  • Anything that interferes with safe sleep or causes overheating.
  • Wardrobes built mostly around special occasions.
  • Tiny decorative items that make changing harder without making life better.

Sizing reality

Keep a little spread across sizes if you can, but do not overbuy one stage. A baby may outgrow some clothes before the tag has fully stopped creasing. If you have a big birth-size unknown, a small range of sizes is more useful than a closet that looks organized but is mostly a guess.

What to buy new

Basic season-appropriate pieces are fine new or used depending on condition. Anything that affects sleep safety or is hard to clean should get more scrutiny 23.
